From Tbilisi to Kutaisi, the REBUILD Study Visit in Georgia offered project partners a unique opportunity to explore the links between vocational education, sustainable reconstruction, industry, and cultural heritage. Held from 9 to 11 June 2026, the visit combined project coordination activities, technical visits, and workshops across two of Georgia’s most important cities.
The study visit began with the 10th Coordination Meeting of the REBUILD consortium, during which partners reviewed the progress of project activities and discussed upcoming tasks. The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange updates and strengthen cooperation among partner institutions.
In the afternoon, participants visited Spectri College, where they learned about vocational education programmes and the institution’s role in preparing future professionals for the construction sector. The day continued with a visit to MEAMA Factory, offering insights into modern production processes, innovation, and collaboration between education providers and industry.
The programme concluded with a visit to the State Silk Museum, where participants explored an important part of Georgia’s industrial and cultural heritage.
The second day focused on the challenges of reconstruction and the importance of resilient infrastructure. Participants explored the impact of the 2002 earthquake in Tbilisi and discussed lessons learned for sustainable rebuilding and disaster preparedness.
Technical visits to Construct2 and Spectri provided practical examples of how vocational education institutions and industry partners contribute to workforce development and the promotion of sustainable construction practices. Discussions highlighted the growing need for skilled professionals capable of supporting reconstruction efforts in affected regions.
The final day was dedicated to the preservation and restoration of cultural heritage. Participants visited the Gelati Complex, one of Georgia’s most significant medieval monuments and a symbol of the country’s educational, scientific, and spiritual heritage.
The programme continued with a visit to the Motsameta Monastery, where participants learned about restoration efforts aimed at preserving the site's historical and cultural value.
The study visit concluded at Kutaisi International University (KIU) with a workshop focused on knowledge exchange, project development, and future cooperation. Partners discussed how the experiences and good practices observed during the visit could contribute to the further implementation of REBUILD activities and the development of training resources.
The REBUILD consortium would like to thank the Georgian partners for their excellent organisation, warm hospitality, and valuable contribution to the success of the study visit. The knowledge gained during these three days will support the project's mission to strengthen vocational education and build capacities for sustainable reconstruction in partner countries.
